FOUNDATIONS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE
GRADES: 9th-12th.
Criminal Justice Students,
We have been learning about lessons identifying the different careers in the law enforcement profession and instructions for students to learn how to complete an application, create a resume, and participate in an interview. Hopefully UNIT: 1 encouraged you to explore and familiarize yourself with careers in law enforcement.
UNIT: 2 CRJU students will be introduced to the complex role of government in a democratic society and the rights and responsibilities of its citizens. You will explore the history and evolution of law enforcement in the United States, roles and responsibilities of different
emergency service agencies and systems of police, courts and corrections will be evaluated.

emergency service agencies and systems of police, courts and corrections will be evaluated.
GPS Focus Standards:
PS-ILJ-2 Students will describe the relationship between police, courts, and corrections.
a) Demonstrate a working knowledge of the criminal justice process and explain how different agencies work together.
b) Identify jurisdictional and venue issues that may arise when different emergency service agencies work together and provide suggestions for resolving them.
c) Describe the roles and responsibilities of private security agencies and explain how they differ from public law enforcement agencies.
d) Discuss the importance of all public safety related agencies working together to serve and protect the public.
e) Describe the roles and responsibilities of local, county, state, and federal agencies.
f) Describe and apply knowledge of how the United States legal system works.
Learning Objective:
• Students will know how the criminal justice system is organized.
• Students will identify agencies at each level of government that respond to public safety situations.
• Students will define terminology commonly used in the criminal justice system.
• Students will establish a timeline of historical developments that influenced the formation of the American system.

SUGGESTED LESSON TIME FRAME : 90 minute work period.
NEEDED STUDENT EQUIPMENT:
Computer- This is needed for each student to access the classroom videos and resources for interactive learning.
Internet Access- This is needed in order for each student to connect to the class website.

Class Summary:
1. Students will play a Game Show Overview online inside google meet with the instructor and other CRJU students. This game overview practice will help with understanding of the foundations of criminal justice , guided notes, and PowerPoint review provided from Monday's assignments.

Class Summary:
1. Students will watch a video online describing the security levels of corrections one of the three foundations of criminal justice listed in the lesson plan objectives.
2. CRJU students should be ready to discuss with instructor and crju students online the five offender classifications in Georgia Prisons. Discussion should be detailed concerning which types of misdemeanors and felonies classify inmates for security housing in the Georgia Prison System.

Class Summary:
We will start a Project Based Activity for the fall semester in google classroom.
1. Login to our google classroom Introduction of Law and Justice website. The instructions and expectations will be listed for each student.
2. The purpose of the Fall Exploratory Project is to allow students to learn about an area in Law & Justice and apply that information concerning the 3 foundational levels of criminal justice. This will help with your future decision on which professional career pathway to enter for personalized information.
3. Create your project by understanding the model method, format, topics, research, internet source, resource, and final submission expectations. Listed below in the file will include the Fall Exploratory Timeline and Scoring Rubric.
*Google Classroom -This project will be a method of assessment used to test the knowledge that each student gained about the criminal justice system process. The google classroom will allow students to brainstorm, communicate with the instructor and other CRJU students for ideas, also time for submitting questions and concerns. Information about the presentation will be discussed in google meet with future dates listed for the project activity.

Remediation Plan
* Students struggling with concepts of foundation of criminal justice can receive extra instruction, extra credit, work sheets, and one opportunity to retake a quiz.
* Students with Disabilities:
For students with disabilities, the instructor should refer to the student's IEP to be sure that the accommodations specified are being provided. Instructors should also familiarize themselves with the provisions of Behavior Intervention Plans that may be part of a student's IEP. Frequent consultation with a student's special education instructor will be beneficial in providing appropriate differentiation.
